Ornithofauna in four natural ecosystems of Snaky Natural Laboratory – URACCAN, Nicaraguan North Caribbean Coast
Abstract
The study was conducted in the natural laboratory named Snaky located in the community of Moss, municipality of Waspam, Autonomous Regions of the North Caribbean Coast. The ornithofauna was diagnosed in the riparian forest, broad-leafed ecosystems, agricultural area and livestock area of the Snaky-URACCAN Natural Laboratory. Linear transects and informal interviews with hunters of the area were carried out, which allowed to create a list of birds and their state of conservation. The results of the different ecosystems reflected the existence of 49 different species of birds, belonging to 23 families and 12 orders. The representative species are: Aratinga nana, Cyanocorax Morio, Ramphocelus Passerinii, Quiscalus nicaraguensis, Procnias tricarunculata, Tachyponus rufus. When comparing diversity indexes, Shannon and Simpson found similarities in their results, there being considerable diversity in the forest, mainly in the gallery.
